Submerged Home Volume 1 Susan Reeves Bawd Designs Books

Sometimes, to make it back to shore, you need to take the hand that's offered. Jared Simpson had his feet swept out from under him, and eventually found himself living on the streets. When Gavin Wells and his daughter come into Jared's life, he's fighting to keep going, struggling to keep swimming towards something that will let him stand tall and steady again. Gavin Wells is fighting his own battles in-laws, bureaucracy, and the guilt that overwhelms him every time he closes his eyes to sleep. He now has a new challenge to face his sexuality. He's attracted to someone for the first time in months, and not only is that person a man, but he's homeless, with the potential to derail Gavin's already complicated life. But fate has brought these two men together. If they can hold tight to each other, they can weather the storm, and find their way home to become a family. **This story is intended for those over the age of 18, as it contains coarse language, graphic sexual content, and adult themes. Some issues addressed within are Post Natal Depression, suicide, and rape, and may trigger strong emotions in some readers.
Submerged Home Volume 1 Susan Reeves Bawd Designs Books
Submerged is one of those novels that grabs you by the throat from page one and throws you on a roller coaster of emotions and feels until the very last page. As I finished reading this novel I found myself sitting and thinking of the journey it had taken me on and everything Susan Reeves had made me feel and imagine. I could understand some readers wondering why Gavin reacted to Jared the way that he did, and vice versa; how trust could be established under the circumstances these men found themselves in, and whether or not this plot line was 'realistic'.For me it was absolutely believable as I have personally seen people react selflessly and compassionately in circumstances where others would not. Not wanting to introduce spoilers I'll simply say that there are people who are capable of great empathy and trust; who go with their instincts and who take a leap of faith were others would run in the other direction.
Gavin and Jared are two men who have been crushed by the worst of circumstances, yet they've somehow managed to hold on to their humanity. They each have trust issues but see something in each other that breaks down their barriers. Forced together by a series of unexpected events, these two men find a connection and solace in the friendship they forge. Out of tragedy and desperation something beautiful unfolds and possibilities arise that neither men could have anticipated.
I absolutely adored both these men and the people they loved. Some of their family members were easy to hate but Susan gave them layers that made them more than simply villains. A difficult task that highlights her outstanding writing skills.
This is not a book for the faint hearted or cynical reader. There are leaps of faith required and some events and situations may be triggers. That said I adored this book.
The HEA left me with a smile on my face and a desire to reread it in future.

Sometimes a second read brings home the fact that what you thought was a good book turned out to be an excellent read after all. When I read this book back in February, I knew it was one that would stay with me and could be a reread on my ever growing list. Thank you Ms. Reeves for putting out a story about finding your way and getting a second chance.
"Just because you've only known one thing your whole life doesn't mean that's all there is." ~Heath, best friend to Gavin
Two men struggling to survive after tragedy find themselves in a fight for change. Losing his wife had been hard for Gavin and now he was raising their tiny daughter alone. He never thought he would find a reason to reenter life until a homeless man named Jared crossed his path and changed his outlook.
Gavin had given me that second chance.
Losing his job meant losing everything, including his son. Jared was determined to do the right thing, until his luck was broken. Now homeless and desolute, he hesitated when a stranger offered him kindness. And when he was at his wit's end, that same stranger brought him home and cared for him.
How could you not cheer for two men like this, their emotional struggles to right the wrong and their ability to fight for justice? This story covered so much, with a taste of GFY, mention of abuse and victory against it. This was a second read and I am sure I will pull this out again. No one deseverved a happily ever after like these men. Good concept, excellent character development and a good execution.
I voluntarily and honestly reviewed this book without bias or persuasion from the author.
This book will hit you right in the feels. Gavin and Jared will make you laugh and cry. Susan Reeves has once again written a beautiful story. Can't wait for the next one!
Susan Reeves has created complex characters in Jared and Gavin. Each character is realistic. The story and romance is both different and page turning. This book touches on homelessness, abandonment and society's treatment of gay fathers.
Definitely recommend.
It was a quite good book. The only reason that I gave it a lower rating than the three or four stars it might otherwise deserve, is that as a health care worker I cannot truly find acceptable the continuous exposure of a 6 month old baby to someone with pneumonia. I understand that we needed to have an emergency for the plot to move on, but perhaps another, non highly contagious and potential lethal health issue could be used. Also, -spoiler alert!!!- I find a little strange the fact that even though a friend of one of the main characters is a health worker, he does not attend this issue. Perhaps it would be beneficial for the author to do some extensive research on health issues before using them in a book. Otherwise, there were not many real problems with the plot - if we put aside the instant, I decide that you are special and I will do almost everything for you, thing - but that is common in many romance books and can be explained as fiction.
